Chapter 411 - How Could That Be?
So for Aunt Blessing and Uncle Blessing, today was the day their son brought their daughter-in-law back home to meet them. They couldn’t help but be utterly excited.
Through the steam from the hot pot, Lin Nuan looked at Aunt Blessing with a silent smile and couldn’t help but say, “Huai’an brought me here, so maybe… he really sees Aunt and Uncle Blessing as parents!”
Aunt Blessing immediately burst into tears and nodded. “Yes! Uncle Blessing and I feel the same. It feels so warm in our hearts! From now on, you and Huai’an must come to Jincheng frequently. Here… just think of it as your home!”
Lin Nuan nodded to Aunt Blessing. “Yes, we will!”
The vegetables in the pot had been in for long enough, so Aunt Blessing took them out and put them aside. She turned to Lin Nuan and said with a smile, “Xiao Nuan, you are a little different from what I saw on TV.”
Lin Nuan put the washed carrots on the chopping board and nodded, “The TV show is for the effect of the program. What style the host needs for the show is arranged in advance by the producer!”
Lin Nuan asked Aunt Blessing how she would like to cut the carrots.
“It’s for stewing corn and rib soup. Hob will do!” After Aunt Blessing said that, she looked back at Lin Nuan. “Let me do it. You’re a young girl and may not know what a hob is…”
As soon as Aunt Blessing finished speaking, she saw Lin Nuan skillfully and accurately cut the carrots in the shape that she wanted.
Aunt Blessing stood beside Lin Nuan with a surprised face. Lin Nuan was a celebrity in her heart. She always thought that all the girls who were celebrities were pampered and that they couldn’t do the work in the kitchen. She thought helping to wash vegetables was already her limit. She couldn’t imagine that Lin Nuan even knew how to cut the carrots in a hob way.
“Did I do it right?” Lin Nuan asked her in a low voice.
“Yes, yes!” Aunt Blessing nodded as she smiled with her cheeks.
She looked at Lin Nuan, who smiled shyly and continued to cut the carrots. Before, Aunt Blessing was worried that Fu Huai’an’s wife was too young to take care of him. Right now, it seemed that even though Lin Nuan was young, she could still do everything. Aunt Blessing was relieved.
No longer standing behind Lin Nuan and staring at her cutting vegetables, Aunt Blessing opened the kitchen ventilator and started to stir fry vegetables.
Meanwhile, she chit-chatted with Lin Nuan about normal things, which was very pleasant.
Aunt Blessing cooked quickly, and soon a few dishes were ready.
The dog barked a few times at the door, then rushed over to it with a wagging tail. The door opened, and Uncle Blessing came in with an enamel pot.
The dog smelled the fragrance, and its throat was sobbing. It tried to grab Uncle Blessing’s arm with its front paw and shook its tail vigorously, trying to charm Uncle Blessing into letting it have a bite.
Uncle Blessing quickly raised the pot, scolded the dog, and let it go. As soon as he looked up, he saw Fu Huai’an hanging up the phone and walking towards him. He laughed and said, “Huai’an, you’re back! Where’s Xiao Nuan?”
“She is helping Aunt Blessing in the kitchen,” Fu Huai’an said. Then he took the enamel pot with one hand. Seeing the dog pouncing to reach the pot, he held the pot higher and walked inside the house.
“How is that okay? How can you let Xiao Nuan go into the kitchen? Just let her relax…”
Through the window, Lin Nuan saw Uncle Blessing hurry into the house. After she finished cutting the onions, she asked her aunt, “Aunt Blessing, what else can I do for you?”
“It’s all right now! You just go out there and have a rest! Dinner will be ready once I finish the last dish.”
As soon as Aunt Blessing said those words, Uncle Blessing entered the kitchen and said, “Xiao Nuan! Don’t stay in the kitchen anymore. There is smoke in here. Quick, quick! You and Huai’an take a rest in the living room and have some of our featured osmanthus rice cakes. Your aunt and I can do the cooking!”
“Xiao Nuan has helped me do it. I’ll just stir-fry the last dish, and then we can get dinner started. You go and clear the table!” Aunt Blessing said to Uncle Blessing.
“Let me do it!” Lin Nuan said with a smile.
“Have a taste of the osmanthus sticky rice cakes while they are hot. You try it first. Your Uncle Blessing will tidy up the table!” Aunt Blessing said with a smile.
Lin Nuan couldn’t refuse the enthusiasm of Uncle Blessing and Aunt Blessing. She sat on the sofa and tasted the osmanthus rice cakes. Fu Huai’an had taken off his suit, pulled up his shirt sleeve, and was showing his strong arm. He was replacing the broken light bulb on the stairway for Uncle Blessing and Aunt Blessing.
Fu Huai’an was tall and could reach the ceiling lamp easily when he stepped on a small platform.
Lin Nuan saw Fu Huai’an had gotten used to this kind of work. He put a light bulb in his trouser pocket, looked up, twisted off the old one, put it in another pocket, and then installed the new one.
Lin Nuan held a hot rice cake in one hand and used her other hand to catch the crumbs.
She took a delicate bite…
The taste was different from what was usually served in restaurants.
The osmanthus rice cake was full of sweet-scented osmanthus. It wasn’t too sweet; it was just right.
“This is the most authentic sweet-scented osmanthus rice cake, made purely from Osmanthus…” Uncle Blessing said to Lin Nuan as he cleared the table. “I don’t know whether you like it or not? The taste of young people has changed. Every year at the Osmanthus Festival, people eat blueberry osmanthus rice cakes, sweet potato osmanthus rice cakes, strawberry osmanthus rice cakes, banana osmanthus rice cakes…”
“Uncle Blessing, I like the taste.” Lin Nuan laughed. “Can I take some with me when I leave? I want to take it back to my friends and let them taste it!”
“Certainly!” Uncle Blessing heard that Lin Nuan liked the cake, which made him happy. “I heard Huai’an say that you will be attending a friend’s wedding tomorrow, and then come back home. I already asked my old friend to do some more this afternoon, so you can take them back for your friends. This cake crafted by skill is very difficult to taste…”
Lin Nuan nodded. “Thank you, Uncle Blessing!”
After lunch, Aunt Blessing peeled fruit. They sat on the sofa and talked about the Osmanthus Festival.
Uncle Blessing talked a lot about the Osmanthus Festival. He urged Lin Nuan to come and see it.
Lin Nuan nodded. “Alright, Uncle Blessing. I will come and see it if I have a chance!”
“Xiao Nuan, try some fresh oranges. We planted the tree behind our house. It’s the third year that it has borne fruit. The oranges are just a little sour to eat at this time.” Aunt Blessing handed Lin Nuan an orange from the basket.
Lin Nuan thanked her and took it. She found a cat’s bed beside the TV cabinet and asked, “Do you have a cat?”
“Yes! Your aunt likes cats.” Uncle Blessing smiled and looked at Fu Huai’an.
“Huai’an doesn’t like cats. When she knows Huai’an is coming, your aunt leaves the cat at the neighbor’s house.”
Fu Huai’an doesn’t like cats?
Lin Nuan looked up at Fu Huai’an, who was peeling oranges. Didn’t he have a cat in his house?
Fu Huai’an also raised his dark eyes to look at Lin Nuan, smiled, then handed a peeled orange to her.
So he doesn’t like cats. Lin Nuan put a piece of orange in her mouth.
